Busting Your Corporate Idol

Definitions

Idol: an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship to influence the natural world or human destiny.

Idolatry: excessive devotion or blind admiration of an object; acceptance of a value system that conflicts with Fundamental Universal Values.

Corporation: an artificial person with its own powers and liabilities.

Corporate Idolatry: excessive devotion to your corporate employer, such that it becomes the top priority in your life.

Fundamental Universal Values (aka Fun-U-Val): The Golden Rule & The Rule of Self Preservation.  Consider the needs of other people before taking an action, and at the same time take care of yourself.  Looking out for the needs of others does not mean that you need to be a doormat.

Values: principles or standards of behavior.  Ultimately, the boundaries of an individual’s behavior is governed by his or her values.
